After a steaming cup of coffee and a huge breakfast, we all boarded the game drive vehicles at 08:00 to depart for the Entabeni Nature Reserve. Just as we entered the reserve, we came across a pride of lions!  The two lionesses did not pay any attention to vehicle, as we slowly made our way closer, until we were within reaching distance…

Only after we left did we realize that everybody was still holding their breath!

After a breathtaking and for some nerve-racking drive up the steep road through Yellowwood Gorge, the scenery opened onto a plain teeming with wildlife, where we would spend the rest of the day.

For the next few hours walking groups rotated through various personal development activities, like conflict resolution and various tools in self-discovery. Wendy Khanye from South Africa, remarked that these activities opened her eyes to the different perspectives people have on life. For many the highlight of the day was abseiling down a sheer cliff, and archery. Some of the delegates had to face personal fears going down the cliff, and it became almost like the fears we all face on the threshold of adulthood.

Discussions ranged from pride in themselves that they had overcome their fears, to the fact that looking back the original fear seemed somewhat unfounded. Something everybody appreciated was the constant support and encouragement from all, regardless of background or culture; all were unified in facing up to the challenges of life!

Archery became a lesson in life, goal setting and the various ways we go about to achieve them. It was an exhausted group of delegates who drove back into camp in the late afternoon. But, the day wasn’t over yet!

The adventurous spirit of the day set the tone for the evening, where delegates spent hours around the campfire sharing skits and songs and jokes from their countries. We were all breathless with laughter, and it took quite a while to settle into the tents and became calm after yet another day of new experiences, friends and fun. As the quietness of the night finally settled over camp, one could only marvel at how so many young people from so many countries could find a commonality amongst us all – humanity…
