The Schaapkop School is a Primary School
located on private property very close to Entabeni, and this school
has now been adopted by Cathay Pacific, Entabeni Nature Reserve &
Ubungani Wilderness Experience. When we arrived at the school,
delegates were gasping in surprise and shock about the state of the
school, for it had not been painted in many years, and the whole
school was in a state of serious neglect. Eagerly everybody set to
work, and it was a deep, moving and very satisfying experience for
all.
It quickly became a ‘community project’ in the
true sense of the word, where everybody joined in the painting, from
delegates to pupils, parents and friends, and even some teachers and
executive staff from Cathay Pacific. Mr. Setoaba, Area Manager of
the Department of Education visited the project and gave his
blessing and full support.
We will all remember the smiling faces of the
little kids when we left the school on our way back to camp… |

Upon our arrival we had to start preparing for
“the mock weddings”, where different countries are given the
opportunity to act out their traditional marriage ceremonies.
Delegates looked colourful and beautiful, and the air was filled
with a feeling of anticipation, almost like a cross country
fancy-dress party.
The wonder of this experience is that although
getting married is a universal ceremony, the practice thereof differ
hugely around the world. Everybody took pride in presenting their
own unique, colourful and beautiful customs, and afterwards
delegates spent hours taking pictures and capturing the moments
forever on film.
All agreed that the fifth day of this
unforgettable experience was hugely successful, and many delegates
were deep in thought amidst the laughter and joy around the fire. |
